ALLEGED DANGEROUS DRIVING.
SEQUEL TO MOTOR COLLISION. ' At the Hawera Magistrate’s Court yesterday afternoon, before Mr J. S. Barton, S.M., the case in which the Hawera, police proceeded against H. Jenkins and T jtv. Moody respectively on charges of driving in a manner dangerous to the public, was continued. Charles Blake gave detailed evidence (regarding the position of the cars and the damage done, and ha advanced the theory that if Moody had been travelling fast his car would have pushed Jenkins’ over to the opposite side of the road from where the cars actually did come to rest.
Thomas K. Moody said that when about 60 yards away from the intersection he looked to the left acro& the vacant section, and being satisfied that all was clear looked to the right and went ahead. In crossing over the South Road intersection he suddenly saw the front of a car come into v | e ' v - He turned his steering wheel, although it could not have had much effect at the distance, threw his engine out of gear and applied his brakes. His left mudguard and lamp hit the other car behind the door. After the crash b e first ascertained whether Mrs Jenkins was hurt, but later he had aconversation with Jenkins, who told mm that he had seen him coming, and thought he could get past. Jenkins further told him that lie was late, and was making time. Witness said the only reason that he could give for not seeing Jenkms’ car was that Jenkins must 'have been travelling faster than he (witness) was, in which case Jenknis was not in view when witness looked across the vacant section Cross-examined by Mr Houston, witness denied that he drove headlong into Jenkins’ car, and forced him against the telegraoh oost. < * adiounjed* until
