COLLISION CASE.
* DANGEROUS DRIVING ALLEGED. The case in which the Hawera police proceeded against Harry Jenkins and E. K. Hoodv respectively on charges oi driving in a manner dangerous to the public was continued this afternoon. Constable Lemni, who visited the scene of the accident shortly after it occurred, said that on the right hand side of the Buick the runuing-baord was smashed and the body panel dented, while on the other side, where it had been thrown up against the telegraph Post, the running-board and side of the body had been broken and the rear wheel completely broken. On Moody’s car the left-hand front mudguard was damaged, the left-hand light broken, the front axle towards the left bent, and two spokes broken out of the left-hand rear wheel Witness said it was quite possible that Moody’s car was going fast and, hitting Jenkins' car ag it swerved, pushed it against the post. A. Muir gave corroborative evidence regarding the damage to the cars, and said that with the road in the wet and slippery _ condition it was it did not necessarily mean that the cars were travelling at an excessive speed Witness agreed that had both drivers been keeping a proper lookout the accident should not have occurred.
Mr. Baylev, in opening his case, said that the defendant Moodv, when pouring up Beach Road in the direction of the intersection, looked out across the vacant section, but saw no car apnroaching along the South Road. Moody was travelling slowlv, and believing the South Road to bis left to be clear, concentrated his attention on the roads leading into the intersection from the other direction. He was across the centre of the intersection when he saw Jenkins’ cai speeding towards him. The case is continuing.
