The Manawatu Rugby Union to-night repudiated the statements of Dr. Thacker, Mr. P. J. Jack and others, in connection with the Press Association message that the whole- of the Manawatu Rugby Union teams were going over to League next season. The following motion was carried unanimously: “That the Manawatu Rugby U nion is so satisfied with the progress of Rugby in its district that it can ignore the misleading statements made by promoters of the League code.” Mr. Tom Collins (Feilding), speaking to the motion, said Rugby was in a better position in the Manawatu than it had ever been, and there was every likelihood of further progress being made next season. He pointed out that for the first time in its history Manawatu had challenged for the Ranfnrly Shield. However? disgruntled Rugbyites of Foxton, which is included in the area of the Horowhenua Union, and not the Manawatu Union, have commenced negotiations to start the League game in that district, and already a correspondent states that sufficient teams have notified their willingness to play and make a good competition.
