BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT Received Aug. 12, 11.25 a.m. LONDON, Aug. 11. The South Africans, in their second innings, had made 184 for four wickets when stumps were drawn. The weather was. ideal and the wicket fast. Bryan batted for hours and hit 29 fours. Pegler took three for 109. Bryan brilliantly hit the highest score against the South Africans. He gave chances at 94 and 147. The innings lasted 330 minutes. The first three batsmen were clean bowled by Jameson’s high-delivered slow-medium puzzlers. PROCEEDS F ROM CONTEST. CLAIM BY GIBBONS. Received Aug. 12, 1.40 p.m. LONDON, Aug. 11. The Evening states -that Gibbons is issuing a writ of attachment against the promoter, Alajor Wilson, for the recovery of £7OOO outstanding as his share in the Bloomfield contest, at which the attendance fell far short of expectations. It is stated that the expenses of the contest amounted to £27,000 and the receipts are believed to have been far less.—'Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. '

RUGBY FOOTBALL.
The City team to play Whareroa on the show grounds to-morrow at 2.30 p.m. will be picked from the following: Purser, Weir, Goodwin, Hammond, Hoddinott (2), Champion, Hall, Roberts, Rosewarne (2), Coburn, Smith. Hardley, Foster, Townsend. .Tarrett, Hook, West, McKenna, and Jones. A practice will be held in Winter Show Buildings to-night.
