MANAIA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) TOWN BOARD. The monthly meeting .of the Manaia Town Boards was held on Thursday night. Present: Crs. J. J, Meldon (chair), C. Jones, R. S. F. Craig, G. Nielson, N. Innes, and Jas. Hickey. Previous to commencing business for the evening Cr N. Innes moved a vote of condelence to Mr W. Bad ley, clerk of the Manaia Town Board, in the recent death of his brother at Waitara. The motion was seconded by the chairman and carried in silence, all members standing. Mr C, E. Hansen wrote asking for a permit to erect a washhouse in concrete. —The request was granted. He also wrote complaining of the overflow of surface water of road going on his projierty.—The matter was left in the hands of the Works Committee.

Mr G. Dakers, secretary of Manaia Farmers’ Union, wrote asking the board to erect a public convenience adjacent to the Town Hall for sanitary purposes.—Received.

Mr H. S. Elliott wrote re electric power meeting, when all delegates are requested to be present. Mr Cobb, proprietor of Waimate Hotel, Manaia, wrote stating that Toroa Ngatau is not renting the Waimate billiard room. Mrs E. A. Mitchell asked that a culvert be put in opposite motor shed in front of her dwelling, and offering to pay half cost. —The request was granted on these conditions. Mr G. Gamlin, secretary of the Public School Committee, wrote asking the board to complete and metal footpath in front of school, the same being in a very bad state. —The matter is to be attended to.

H. Wiltshire wrote resigning the position of poundkeeper of the Manaia Town Board owing to leaving the district.—The resignation was accepted, and Mr Merrie, of Manaia, was appointed temporarily. Applications are to be called for poundkeeper. A deputation from the Manaia Cricket Club, consisting of Messrs T. Sherlock and H. Whalen, waited bn the board, asking. permission to put down a- concrete pitch on the Domain, the same to be put down below the surface, so that at the finish of the season it can be turfed over for the football season, and as it is for sport and improving the Domain, asking the board to pay half the cost. —The board decided to go into the matter. It was resolved that 19 12-inch pipes be procured from Mr Wiltshire at price stated. > The Manaia Returned Soldiers’ Ball Committe wrote handing over to the Manaia Domain proceeds of annual •ball, £lB 7s.—lt was resolved that a hearty vote of thanks he accorded to the returned .soldiers for their kind gift, which was much appreciated. The Taranaki Rughy Union forwarded £5 14s received as part payment for gates at season football matches!. A report was received in connection with the Round Bush section.—lt was resolved that the matter of dealing with same be left in the hands of Crs Jones and Hickey to make arrangements of fencing same. It was resolved that the clerk of Manaia Town Board write to the member for Egmont, Mr 0. J. Hawken, M.P., re loan moneys due to the Manaia Town Board in connection with the water and drainage* and failing a satisfactory reply that a deputation proceed to Wellington soliciting the aid of the Taranaki members re same. It was resolved to have a. rounding tip day with the stray cattle and horses in the town and impound same, the owners to be prosecuted. Tt was resolved that the matter of some person taking the piano rug from the Town Hall on Wednesday, July 30, be placed in the hands 'of the police. The monthly accounts were passed for payment.
