A GOOD SUGGESTION.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —There seem to be a great number of shops in Hawera for such a small local and surrounding population, and .seeing that all depend directly or, indirectly on the milk cheque for existence, it means that for part of the year trade is precarious. Coud not the retailers at their meeting find a way of attracting a substantial industry to our towWanganui has its prospective woollen industry, and surely there is something peculiarly suitable to Hawera that would bring us a larger population and. a steady all the year round trade. Perhaps, too, we should then see a prospectus of our own large industry, lying at the hanks inviting investment instead of that of other towns. If the retailers offered a good prize for the best approved article sent to your paper on the subject it might lead to the immediate flotation of a company and react to the retailers’ benefit. —1 am, etc., NEMO.
