ELTHAM.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) BOROUGH COUNCIL. A ' special meeting of the Eltham Borough Council was held in the council chamber last evening The Mayor (Mr. G. W. Tayler) presided. The others present were: Councillors Andrews, Bridger, Campbell, King, Nairn, Taylor and Thomas. The .meeting was called for the pui’pose of receiving applications for the position of gas manager. There were sixteen applications, and it was decided to reduce the number to three, who are to he asked to interview' the council at a time to be arranged by the Mayor and the Town Clerk. The council then went into committee to receive the report of the special committee set up to value the Fire Brigade equipment and buildings, to submit to the newlv-formed -Fire Board. Tlie report was approved. The. council, also considered an application from Father Moore for permission to hold street stalls on August 20 and 27 and September 10. After considerable discussion it was decided that permission be given for one duv only, August 20 being the date granted*. BENEFIT CONCERT. The Town. Hall was well filled last night when the benefit concert arranged by local c-itiezns for Mr. C. Foot, who has been lying ill for about six months as a result of a chill, w\as given. The programme was an eycellent one and included some very well rendered items. At the conclusion of the concert a verv enjoyable dance was• held. It is understood that the function will show a substantial profit.
