THE GREAT WAR.
LESSONS TO BE REMEMBERED. (by TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 11. In response to a»request from the editor of the Daily Mirror-, London, for a message in connection with the recent anniversary of the declaration of war against Germany, the Prime Minister (Mr; W v iF. Massey) forwarded the following cable; “Ten years ago to-day war was declared against a powerful enemy, and the response from the British manhood was magnificent. After more than four years of struggle and carnage victory came to Britain and her allies. Already we are inclined to look upon the war as the recollection of an evil dream, but its lessons must not be forgotten, and Britons, wherever they are located, must continue to honour the memory of those who made the supreme sacrifice. Some day another enemy will make his appearance. Attempts' have already been/made to sap the foundations of the Empire, but as British citizens our duty is clear. Stand fast, stand together, and be sufficiently prepared to meet the clash when the call comes.”
