Miss Purdie, who was killed in a collision at Waitara on Sunday nightwas the only daughter of Mr James Purdie, of IV aitara, and she and her brother Douglas conducted a stationery business in that town. Mrs. Emma Jackson, ..ope of the Pioneer colonists of Canterbury, passed a ' Vay Summer last Saturday at the age of 86 years. 'll l6 death occurred on Saturday of well-known resident of Urenui. Deceased was at one time an official in the Public Works Department. He had reached the age of 70 years, and leaves a widow and large grown-up family, in_ eluding Messrs W. R. and P. Fuller, of Waitara, and W. H. and G. Fuller, ot Urenui, and several daughters. Mr. T M. Nicholson, chief officer of the ill-fated Ripple, was married to a daughter of Mr. J. Jenkinson, of Eltham, who is at present on a visit to her parents, and for whom much sympathy will be felt. Mr. Nicholson, who was .38 years of age, was for a number of years in the employ of the Auckland Harbour Board, and he joined the Richardson Shipping Line about five years ago. His parents reside in Auckland.
