DOUGLAS MAWSON
EFFORT TO RESCUE SURVIVORS. *T CABLE — PBSBB ASSWOIATION—CUPYfcxaK^ Received Aug. 9, 10.45 a.m. THURSDAY ISLAND, Aug. 9. Probably Captain Wilkins, explorer, and the Rev. Mr Watson, who is in charge of the Methodist mission stations in the Northern Territory, will endeavour to rescue the supposed survivors from the Douglas Mawson. The Rev. Mr Watson considers that the best method of procedure is quiet investigation by two or three whites whom the blacks favour. The opinion is expressed that the rumours concerning survivors may be due to confusion with the fact that duying May last two white lady missionaries were noticed passing to the south-west of Groob Island to the Anglican Mission there.—Aus.-N.Z.
