NEW DEMANDS. (by TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, Aug. s. Something of a deaalock was reached at riie Conciliation Council sitting this morning to cohsicier the application of the New Zealand Freezing Workers and Related 'trades Federation for a new avvard, and finally an adjournment was made till the alternoon to allow both sides to consider ,the position. The first of the Council was held on Y\ ednesday, hut an adjournment was then taken to allow tlie union to submit amended claims. These claims ask for an eight-hour day on five and a half days a week. General increases ip wages are asked for, and they .request that overtime shall be at the rate of time and a half for the first fo.ur hours and double time thereafter. The employers admitted that the claims were more reasonable than the original qnes, but they still felt that they could not agiee to any alteration in the conditions.
