Staff-Captain Snter, editor of the V\ av Cry, was in Fltham on Wednesday taking a series of views of the Eltnam Boys’ Home, which will be published in the Christmas -umber «,f the Ci-y. The captain was a i assmger for the south by yesterd tv r orniiu>'s express. The death occurred suddenly yesterday of Mr H. C. Brookfield, who has been in practice as a dentist in Wanganui for the past 30 years. Mr Brookfield was a well-known and- muchesteemed citizen, and a wide circle of friends will regret his passing. Mr Brookfield was 67 years of age, and was born in Auckland. He leaves a widow and daughter. He was a prominent figure in circles, and was a member of the New Zealand bowling team which visited England a few years ago.—Chronicle.

Ihe Rev. W. Te Rangitewhata hraser, at the termination of the 2nd Mounted Rifles camp at Waverley racecourse in June (where he was one of the chaplains in camp), received an order to proceed to the South Island on mission work amongst the natives in the various centres for a month, and has returned to Hawera. *He has also been officiating at European services and other missionary meetings in connection with his mission.

Our Manaia correspondent writes: The citizens of Manaia and district' will very much iregret to hear of the death of Mrs Louisa Mourie at the residence of her • daughter, Mrs M. Bolger, at Devonport, last Wednesday. The late Mrs Mourie was an old identity .of Manaia., coming with her late husband, Mr John Mon rie, who predeceased her a number of yearns ago. They arrived in Manama over 44 years ; 'go, and they were both hold in very high esteem by all who knew them. The late Mrs Mourie- was of a very kind and charitable disposition, and in the early days she was always ready to assist in any charity work and in sickness as well as in social work. There are nine of a family left to mourn the loss of a good mother— Mestlames M. Bolger. E. Parsons, Jas. Miller and H. Sutton, and Messrs D. Mourie, Francis, Joseph, Frederick, and John. To them the citizens of Manaia and district extend their deepest sympathy. . The funeral will leave the Manaia Catholic Church on Sunday, August 10, at 2 p.rn., for the Manaia Cemetery.
