On July 23 notice was served on the employers in the Hoskins Company demanding the reinstatement of an employee who was called out on strike during the previA. ous dispute, which occupied the lirst N four months of the present year. As the demand was not complied with yesterday it was stated that the notice will take effect at midnight. Unless a settlement is quickly reached the stoppage will be far-reaching, the intention of the union being to call out the men in all the coke works, in the State. COAL TRIMMERS STOP WORK. SYDNEY, Aug. 7. Ihe members of the Newcastle Coal Trimmers’ Union ceased work as a result of the action of the stevedoring company jp refusing to employ a man who had been convicted of pilfering.
