CRICKET.
MANAIA CLUB. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The annual meeting of the Manaia Cricket Club was held last evening. Mr. V, H. Hobday (president) presided over a good attendance. The report and balance-sheet as read was adopted, showing a deficit of £5 16s, this amount being owing to members not paying their subscriptions. The balance-sheet as read was adopted. It was resolved that all outstanding subscriptions accounts owing to the club be sent out at once, and asking for immediate payment. Officers for the ensuing year were chosen as follows : —Patron, Mr. A. G. Bennett; president, Mr. H. M. McIvor; vice-presidents, Messrs. K. Old, H. Holmes, A, Stephenson, T. W. Armitage, E. Long, Jas. Hickey, J. S. McKay, S. Greaves, A. Clarke, E. J. Judd, Rev. Father O’Dwyer, aqd Rev. A. O. Swainson. Mr. T. Miller was elected secretary and treasurer. Auditor, Mr. V. H. Hobday. Delegates to' South Taranaki Cricket Association, Messrs. V. H. Hobday and H. Whalen. Selectors, Messrs. G. Stephenson, W. Bairstow and H. Whalen. The matter of electing a captain was left over until the first match.
General committee and ground committee consist of all present—Messrs. T. Sherlock, V. H. Hobday, H. Whalen, G. Clarke, F. Guise, H. Clarke, C. Denman, P. Bowe, G. Stephenson, G. Haynes, J. /Cosgrove, with power to add, and five to form a quorum. - The subscription was fixed at a guinea per member and all under 48 years of age 10s 6d, honorary members ss, subscription to he paid before November 1, 1924. The matter of a. junior team was left over,at present to see what membership would be available. The following new members were duly elected: Messrs. C. Denman, P. Bowe, A. Richardson, J. Thatcher, H. Hughes, W. Bairstow, J. O’Leary. i It was resolved that Messrs. H. Whalen and T. Sherlock wait on the Town Board re putting down a. concrete pitch, for cricket in the Manaia Domain. Correspondence from the South Taranaki Cricket Association was left in the hands of the delegates to the association to deal with. Mr. G. Stephenson, the donor of a bat for last season for the best batting average, was present and handed to the meeting a. beautiful Lilley’s best bat, the winner being Mr. Albert Hughes. As the winner was not present, the bat will be presented to him at a. later meeting. Mr. T. Sherlock, of the Manaia team, was the winner of South Taranaki in bowling, and a gold medal for same will be presented to him at a. later date. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr. H. Whalen, that- a hearty vote of thanks be accorded to Mr. G. Stephenson, for his kind donation of a. liat for the best hatting average last Reason which went to show the donor had the fine spirit of cricket in his heart The club thoroughly appreciated his gift. A general meeting will be held of the club on Monday, August 18, at '•'7 P- m ’ to consider general matters and arrange for (annual social. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the jiast president, Mr. V. H. Hobday, for the very able manner in which he earned out his many duties as president, and the interest taken in the dub. Mr. Hobday suitably responded.
