CRICKET.
ENGLISH COUNTY MATCHES. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT LONDON. Aus;. 5. The position at the close of in the countv matches was as follows: — Nottingham declared with eight wickets down in the first innings for 110.1 (Flint- 103. Walker 97. Whvsall 81). Surrey replied with -107 (Sandman 169. Hobbs 105, Shepherd Hi). In a second shrike Nottingham have lost three wickets for Hi. Kent, in the first innings, made 330 for nine wickets, and then declared (Wool ley 101, Harding 67, G. Bryan 50). Brown took four wickets for IS. Hampshire made- 172 in their first innings (Mead 66). Marriott took five wickets for 66. Hampshire followed on compiling 137, Marriott taking five wickets for 44. Yorkshire’s first innings realised 359 (Leyland. 133 not out, Sutcliffe 90). Lancashire have two wickets down for 78. Middlesex made 248 in thei first innings (Manning 57), Tate taking six wickets for 66. Sussex replied with 153, Hearne taking five wickets for 66 and Stevens four for 51. One hundred runs were made by Middlesex in a. second strike, Bowley capturing five wickets for 16 runs and Tate four for 33. Sussex made 162 in the second strike.
For Worcester against Essex, in the first innings, Root took nine wickets for 40 runs; for Sussex Douglas took five for 56; and far Somerset against .Gloucester Bridges took five wickets for 71. All unfinished matches were abandoned owing to rain.

BOURNEMOUTH TOURNAMENT. LONDON. Aug. 6. In the second round of the Bournemouth tournament Baylev heat Bertrand, 6 —l, 6 —l; Willarcl heat Lamb. 6—o, 6 —l; and Fisher heat Sumner/ 6—l, 4—6, 6—4. AUSTRALIANS IN AMERICA. NEW YORK, Aug. 5. At Southampton. Long Island, in the Meadow Club’s invitation tournament, Brookes (Australia) defeated Kelleher, 6 —l, 6—l; and Voskill defeated Seldesinger (Australia), 2—6. 6—3, 6 —4. Brookes later defeated Irving 'Weinstein (California), 6—2. 6—2.
