The Duke and Duchess of York leave England .in November on a private tour of the Kenya Colony and Uganda (states a cable message from London). Mr John Vicary,- of Featherston, celebrated his ninetieth birthday last week. He has resided in the Wairarapa for 66 years. For many years he was engaged in fanning at Featherston, and some years ago leased his property. He now lives in retirement in Featherston. The death of Mr James Barnes Heywood, aged 84, occurred in London, according to adviee v received in Auckland. Deceased was formerly Undersecretary to the Treasury and assistant Auditor-General in New Zealand. He went to England on retirement about fourteen years ago. He was one of the first New Zealand recipients of the I.S.O.—Press Association. A London cable message states that Captain Harper, author of the official report of the Battle of Jutland, which Avas suppressed in 1921, has been promoted to Rear-Admiral, vice Admiral Phillimore, A\ T ho was beach master at the Gallipoli landing, and has been gazetted Admiral of the Fleet. The death of Mr Francis Gittos, Avho was born in Hokianga 81 years ago, is announced in an Auckland telegram. Deceased was a son of Air Benjamin Gittos, who settled at Hokianga in the very beginning of Ne%v Zealand’s history. Deceased was a brother of Re\l William Gittos. The family of Benjamin Gittos Avas A T ery long-lived, William dying at a great age and a sister (Mrs T. Cooke) dying last AA r eek at 86 years.
