TRAIN SMASH
THE CHIEF VICTIMS. WOMEN AND GIRLS. 41 CABLE—PHEBB ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT LONDON, July 29. The victims of the train smash at Edinburgh were mostly women and girl members of a polytechnic holiday party from London, Oxford, and Manchester, who were residing temporarily in a hostel at Edinburgh. Thev had been on an excursion to St. Andrew’s, and had just transferred into the stationary suburban train.
Seventy-five minutes elapsed before the last of those injured could be extricated from the telescoped carriages. Every movement of the structure with crowbars evoked groans from those pinned under. Doctors succoured the imprisoned persons with brandy while the rescuers were smashing the woodwork.
