HAWERA SCOTTISH SOCIETY.
MEETING OF COMMITTEE, A meeting of the committee of the Hawera. Scottish Society was held last night in Mr. McCormick’s house in Surrey Street, when there were present: Messrs. W. G. Simpson (in the chair), James Campbell (treasurer), McCormick (secretary), P. Buchan and J. Fraser, and Mes dames Fraser, McCormick . L. A. Taylor, Harvey, Tait and Evven. The principal business of the evening was to consider the best way of arranging for the lecture on “\Ybat Scotland did for Making the British Empire,” by the editor of the Scottish Now Zealander (Mr. Thomson). It was arranged to hold the lecture in the Foresters’ Hall next Friday, and to make the occasion one in which several Scottish songs will be sung by well-known singers. A musical committee was appointed—-Mr. Simpson and Mr. and Mrs. Taylor —to make all arrangements. The hope was expressed that all who could, Scottish people especially, would endeavour to he present to learn something of the efforts Scotland made in making and establishing the greatest. Empire the world has over seen in its long history.
