WEMBLEY

EMPIRE PAGEANT. BY CARLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT (Received Julv 28, 11.25 n.nO LONDON, July 27. The first performances of the Australian and New Zealand sections of the Empire pageant attracted crowds to Wembley. The stadium was a succession of brilliant spectacles and dramatic incidents, which evoked great applause. The performance opened, on Windsor Castle Greensward, Captain Cook receiving George 111. ’s commission to seek new lands on the southern seas, followed bv the landing of Captain Cooir and the Battle of Orakau, which was a realistic gripping display. Australia’s initial scene was the landing of Cook in Botany Bay, and thereafter history was brilliantly pictured in a pageant terminating with the spectacular grouping of all the Dominions and colonies, the crash of bells and music, and the triumphal procession of a hundred delegates.—Aus.-N.Z.
