TE ROTI.
(From a Correspondent.) One of the most popular events of the season took place on Friday, July 18. when the ladies held their return ball. It was an unqualified success in every way. A very large crowd of residents and visitors from Hawera, Eltliam, Normanby, Frazer Road, Stratford, Ngaere, Mangatoki and Kaponga were present, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the evening. The floor, which is noted as one of the best, was in perfect order, and dancing was therefore specially enjoyable. The music was supplied by Mr. Major, of Rawhitiroa, and this contributed in no small degree to the success of the function. The hall was tastefully decorated with coloured -paper ribbon streamers and Chinese lanterns, for which the bachelors must 'be thanked, who. kindly left them from their ball. The. dancing went with a. great swing throughout, the novelty dances causing a great deal of amusement. Messrs. Coleman and Telfer carried out the duties of M.C.’s in a most efficient manner. The ball was brought to a close in the early hours of the morning, ami was voted as one of the most .successful ever held in Te Roti.
