(BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION 1 CHRISTCHURCH, July 25. lhe Health Department refused permission to Maoris at Rapaki to have a tangi for a woman who" died at the pa. “We are going to nut our foot down on the practice,” said the District Health Officer, Dr. Telford. He said also that the Department no longer allowed North Island Maoris to hold ta-ngis. and there was no reason why natives in. the south should not he treated in the same way. The department’s objection to the custom is that it is not in the interests of public .lealth that the ceremony should be held, especially if the death ha R been due to infectious disease The woman at Rapaki died of pneumonia
