TAXATION.

RESOLUTION BY FARMERS. LAND TAX FAVOURED. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.} MARTON, July 26. A large meeting at Hunteryille of representative farmers from Rangitikei, Oroua, and Manawntu carried a resolution unanimously in .favour of the retention of the land tax rather than the income tax on land, as recommended by the Taxation Commission. In view of the importance of the subject Die following resolution is of interest to the Dominion: “That having followed with great interest the proceedings of the Taxation Commission, and having carefully considered its report and appreciating the difficulties in dealing with conflicting interests, and while fully agreeing with the several recommendations made, this meeting is unanimously of the opinion that a simple, leasonahle form of land tax would he more satisfactory and equitable than any system of taxation on the income derived by farmers from the direct use of land, and strongly urges the Goveinment not to abandon .the principle of land tax in favour of income tax in respect to the. farming community.”
