DOMINION INSTITUTION. REQUEST TO MR. MASSEY. (BT TELEGRAPH- —PRESS ASSOCIATION.j AY ELLINGTON, July 24. A deputation of representative citizens who are interested in science and art waited oh Mr Massey to-day. to urge that the Government should increase to £IOO,OOO an offer of £75,000 piiously macle by Cabinet, in order to allow of a Dominion museum and ait gallery worthy of the country being erected in Wellington. Mr. Massey stated that he could not pionnse that the Government would grant the request, which, however, would be considered by Cabinet in the course of a few days. He had a great deal of sympathy with the request, but lias some\vhat staggered by the figures put forward. The promise of £75,000 would be kept, but the deputation was asking for £25,000 to £130,000 additional, as well as part of the site. Cabinet ivould do the best it could, and Tie - honed it Mould result in the museum and art gallery, being provided not only for Wellington, because it was not a. Wellington concern altogether, but for the Dominion. ’
