ELTHAM FIRE BOARD.
FIRST MEETING OF COMMITTEE. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The first meeting of the above board .vas held in the Borough Council Chambers yesterday afternoon. The ‘olio wing members were present: Messrs. Adlairi, Jones, Holan, Bridger, stanners, King and Thomas. On the motion of Messrs. King ami Rolan, Mr. R. H. Thomas was appointed chairman of the board and Mr. Waters (Town Clerk) was appointed secret ary at a salary of £25 per annum. On the motion of Messrs. Bridger and Stanners, Mr. H. A. Nuttall was appointed superintendent at a salary )f .£lO per annum and Mr. ,S. Murray leputy-superiiitendeiit. Members: of the hoard spoke appreciatively of the length of service put in by these two men. It was decided to ask the superintendent, to bring down a report con•erning the equipment, water pressure, and. arrangements made at the fire station for the board's next meeting in one month from date. The matter of preparing the estimated expenditure ■ for the ensuing year was left in the hands of the local members of the committee to report at next meeting. The Borough Council were asked to submit their quotation for all land, buildings and equipment used by the brigade so that the matter of purchase could be considered by the board. In reply to a question concerning the area under the board’s jurisdiction, the lown Clerk stated that the whole borough was included. The secretary explained that as the board had come into existence since the first day of June, it would not be possible to collect the A’-arious levier* until the close of the year’s operations, and that it would be necessary to apply ior permission to obtain an o\ rerdralt ■sufficient to cover working expenses during the year.—it AA’as decided to do this and open an account in the Bank of New Zealand. On the motion of the chairman the billowing resolution was passed: Hint, tlie hoard expresses its great appreciation oi the scr\'ieos rendered by flic Eltham Fire l Brigade, and sincerely trusts that the same very satisfactory service will he continued under the Eire Board.’’
