TARANAKI RUGBY UNION.
COMMITTEE MEETING. The Management Committee of the f ai - a,laKl -Kuguy Union met at Stratford last evening. Tne re were present: Messrs J. McLeod (chairman), J. Arising out of the request of the \\aiiarapa Union tr.at the Wairarapaiaranaki rep. fixture ne played at Hawera. on vYeduesday, September 3, considerable discussion took place. 3 Mr Young stated that tne Stratford Progressive League were prepaired to guarantee that the shops would be closed for any mki-wesk representative game. Mi- Neilson moved "that the match be played at Hawera, and Air Goodwin seconded. Air Saunders moved as an amendment that the match be played at Stratford. A suggestion was made that the match be played at Stratford eoiulitionaliy that the Wanganui match be played at Hawera. iy Mr Garcia considered that the Wanganui players should be given a trip further from home. Finally the amendment was made tc read: “That the Taranaki-Wanganui match he played at Stratford on condition that the shops close on the Wednesday,"’ and on bring put to the vote was carried. On the motion of the chairman, it was decided to notify the- Wanganui Union that the Wanganui-Taranaki rep. game he played at Hawera. The, Bash Union wrote expressing regret that it would be "impossible to arrange for a match with Taranaki this season. The Horowlienua Union advised that they would not be "able to travel to Taranaki this season. An agreement concerning travelling expenses requested bv the North AueklandAUnion in connection with the match on August 23 was confirmed. The Taranaki Schools Rugby Union made application for permission tc play North v. South primary school. 1; representative match as a " curtainraiser to tiie Taranaki-Manawatu repr/e sentative game on August 7. —Permission was granted, the match bcinj. duly authorised. The Schools’ Uniov to manage the match and render accounts to the Taranaki Union. The Stratford Club advised that various junior clubs in the. central, division had asked that a recommendation be made to the union to grant permission to juniors to play a representative tournament between* Southern, Central and Northern divisions. The Central division was prepared tc pay tlicir own expenses.—lt was con sidcrcd to he impracticable this season. PROTESTS. Hie Okaiawa Club entered a protesi against Hawera being awarded the senior match played on July 12, Hawera having piayed S. Cameron, whe was held to be ineligible, as his transfer fironi the Wanganui Union was noi complete, and he had not resided ii. Hawera district sufficient time tc qualify to play for Hawera.—The chairman pointed out that it was not necessary under the rules of the- union foi a player to be transferred from an outside union. All that,was require! was the 14. days’ residential qualification.—Air Goodwin stated that Cameron had resided in Hawera since June 23, although by request from Wanganui he had after that date played aU Wanganui. The chairman of the- committee had assured him that a playei could return and play lor his previous club during the 14 days without- being compelled to stand down fqr the ensuing 14 days.—On the motion of the chairman the protest was dismissed. The Patea Club wrote requesting thai the matter of the Alton protest be reopened, Patea lodging a comiter-pro-test against “Fish,” also known as Ika, who played for Onaku and had noi been reinstated.—Air Whyte movec that the matter be not re-opened.—Al Goodwin, seconded by Air Casey, move<_ that the matcij be awarded to Patea-. — As an amendment, Ahr Garcia movec that the matter be held over to allow Patea the opportunity of lodging theii protest. —The amendment was lost, AL Whyte’s motion being carried. The Clifton Club, writing m regarc to Grayling, stated that this playe. iiad been picked to play senior, but refused to go on the field as a senior. He bad attempted to plav lor Leppurton against, Uienui after his refusaL, but was stopped by.Urenui on the grounds that he was a senior. They had always given Grayling a fair deal, and were still prepared to do so. The club apologised for net putting their secont. grade team in the field against Star, but the players broke up at the last minute, and it was found impossible tc get a team together or to notify Star. —A deputation from the Leppertoi. Club waited upon the union asking the union to reinstate Grayling and allow him to play for Leppert-on. The speakers pointed out. that- Grayling’s occupation ’prevented him from travelling. Flaying senior entailed travelling, ano if he were not allowed to play in tiie Lepperton team it would mean that he would be deprived of playing altogether.—The matter was discussed after the withdrawal of the deputation, it being decided, on the motion of All Casey that Grayling’s reinstatement be confirmed. THE ■REFEREES’ DISPUTE. The following resolution was receiveu from the Taranaki Kugby Referees Association (Northern Division): "That in view of tile. Tar.-aaKi Rugby Union having established a precedent in August, 1919, iii meeting this division in conference and considering our complaint as a division, --.e are quite in order in putting the present complaint as a division through the union direct, and in view of the Taranaki Rugb\ Fnion agreeing at their meeting a<. Hawera. on July 2 to meet the? division in conference, we are prepared to continue With games this Saturday: also that an assurance must he received at an early date that the conference wil. be held at the earliest.” The chairman read the resolution passed at the meeting at Hawera. and intimated that it contained no reference to the union meeting the division in conference. He considered that the division should approach, the union through the proper channel—the Referees’ Association.
Other members concurred in this opinion. Mr Young suggested that the Taranaki Referees’ Association l>e requested to call a conference of referees, at which delegates might be appointed to meet the union. On the motion of tho chairman, seconded by Mr Young, it was decided to request the Taranaki Referees 1 Association (o call a conference of referees of the tluee divisions to discuss the complaints of the northern division and any other matters, and to place their findings before the union. REINSTATEMENT RULE, AMENDED The Stratford Club wrote asking in
the event of a third round that- players be allowed reinstatement up to "the end of the third week in the second round. Speaking to liis notice of motion on the matter, All* Young supported the application, and moved that Rule 11 be amended accordingly. After a full discussion on the matter, an amendment, proposed by AL* Whyte, that June 15 be the closing date for the receipt of applications for reinstatement was carried. LEAG UE RETN ST A TEA 1 ENTS. The New Zealand Rugby Union notified that, a requisition having been putin by the North Auckland and Alanawatu Unions, a special general meeting would be held in Wellington on August 6 to consider rescinding the mo cion passed a t the annual general meeting that no reinstated player be in the New Zealand team. The New Zealand Rugby Union advised that J. H. Cave had been reinstated on the recommendation of the Taranaki Union. THE ALL BLACKS. The New Zealand Rugby Union advised that the English Union had located " tha headquarters of the 1924 All Blacks when i n England at Newton Abbott. J setters could also be addressed to the New Zealand High -Commissioner’s Office, London ; or care of 6. J. A rav, solicitor, 160 Piccadilly, London 3.E. GENERAL. Tno Hawera Club wrote enclosing cheque for £3l R 1 -is 9d, being balance from the Wellington v. Taranaki (£255 4s *f)d) and balance from the Hawera **• Stratford (£63 11s) matches. ■tv cheque fo ; r £33 Os 3d was. received from the Stratford Club, being balance ot proceeds from the Dewars Shield tournament. The club advised ‘hat an entry fee outstanding would be forwarded on receipt. The Alton Chili notified that as they and been unable to get a team together they had decided to disband. — lhe secretary was instructed to supply information requested bv the club concerning procedure, etc.’ . An application was received from the Hawera Club, dated Julv 1, for the transfer of S. Cameron," late of iVaverley. and now a resident of the Hawera district.
Affiliation fees were received from the seven junior teams in the Wednesday Clubs competition. It was decided to issue complimentary tickets of admission to union fixtures members of the executive committee of the Primary Schools Union, The Clifton Club wrote, asking whether it would fie possible to arrange for Hawera to play at Waitara, as Clifton would probably have trouble in raising i team to travel.—lt was pointed out -hat on the following Saturday Okaiiwa would travel to AVaitard, it being lecided that the fixture as alreadv deided would have to stand.
