A BRILLIANT DISPLAY. NFjW PLYMOUTH BEAT WANGANUI. After a contest in which play of -a very classy order was shown throughout, bright, crisp passing rushes among the backs, and keen dashing play amongst the forwards, combined with tackling of the deadliest and such as is rarely seen in any but a college match, the New Plymouth High School team gained a convincing victory over Wanganui Collegiate. They proved that their team is little if any inferior to the boys who represented them during the last few vears, and who have made such a fine record. The combination amongst the team, back au d forward, and their sweeping rushes, though checked 'at first by the stern tackling of their opponents, gradually asserted themselves, and in the second spell enabled them to put on a good margin of points. •Wanganui kicked off, and though play swept up and downfield in a series of magnificent passing rushes, the sure, keen defensive work was so good that only rarely did either team • o-et clean away. At length Wanganui swept upheld in a. fine rush in which Ormond was taken near the line, and New Plymouth had hard work to keep them out, Petty saving cleverly twice in quick succession. 'A free kick relieved them, and a faulty pass by Oimond gave New Plymouth, an opening. McKenzie, with a great dash, saved and Wanganui again went upheld once more, Gardner at fiveeighths showing fine form and a. nice, turn of speed. The kick failed. Keeping, up the pressure, the hacks again went downfield, and near halfway a slow pass was intercepted by beanlan, and that speedy player got clean away and scored a . good try.
