BODILY HARM.
SKULL FRACTURED. A RELUCTANT WITNESS. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) AUCKLAND, .July 24. At Court to-day, Maurice Burns 'Ward, aged was charged that on June 4 lie did assault Florf Boulton so as to pause her actual bodily harm. A medical man stated that lie was called •to the house where Mrs. Boulton, accused's widowed sister, was lying in a pool of blood with a fracture- of the base of the skull. The 10-year-old son of Airs. Boulton said he saw the accused kneeling beside Ins mother and knocking her head on the floor. Mrs. Boulton, in the box, said that when the accused came home he asked v here his wife was. She said she did not remember receiving the injuries, and she did not answer s omc of the chief detective’s questions. Subsequently she gave answers after some hesitation. Questioned regarding the statement to the detective, she said she signed it hut did not know what state she was in when she gave it. Accused pleaded not guilty, and reserved his defence. He was committed for trial, hail being fixed at £SOO.
