THE DOUGLAS MAWSON.

PROBABLE FATE. MAY FTxWE DRIFTED ASHORE. 3Y CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. Received July 24, 10.5 a.m BRISBANE, July 24. Mr John Burke, managing director for the John Burke Co., charterers of the Douglas Mawson, stated that she was loaded with, wool and emnty casks, and was sheathed with pine. The Douglas. Mawson would have been hard to sink, he believes, and the vessel may have drifted ashore on the- territory on the coast cf the Gulf of Carpentaria, and considers that the Navy Department should send a vessel to investigate. He says that Captain Timet was a good seaman, and he may have run before the storm and reached the western coast of the gulf, and. in that case the story told by blacks may be tiruei. A naval search would decide this point definitely.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
