INQUEST opened. rdt-erncon, bcio-ie the coroner, Mr( «/'. S. Barton, S.AI., part at tlie inquiry into the’ circumstances surrounding the death, of .John .Joseph Doyle was heard. Dir. John MeGhie deposed as to having visited the %ene of the accident, and having found Doyle lying on the bank with his head on the cushion of the side-chair. The bicycle and sidechair were standing in an upright position near by. He made an examination and found life to lie extinct, the body being quite warm, pointing to the fact that death had not occurred more than half an hour previously. Beyond a superficial wound on the side of the temple and a slight bleeding from the nose, there was no other sign of external injury/ in fact the doctor was not prepared to give an opinion as to the cause of death without a post mortem. The injuries he had discovered did not involve the skull and were not sufficient to have caused death. There was a possibility of deceased having fainted prior to his falling off the bicycle. Francis Patrick Doyle, brother of deceased, said that his brother had that afternoon expressed his intention of going out to Okaiawa. Deceased had been in good health, arid was an experienced rider. He was 31 years of age. was a single man, and was drawing a military pension. At this stage the inquest was adjourned to allow the police to make further enquiries.
