TARANAKI JOCKEY CLUB
The report of the committee which is to be presented at the annual meeting of members of the Taranaki Jockey Club states:— A perusal of the balance-sheet discloses very gratifying results for the ye arks working. A profit of £1603 6s 5d is shown, after providing the sum of £1033 0s 10c! for depreciation. Government taxation still presses heavily on .all racing clubs. Repeated representations have been made •to the Government, and it ;is Icon-* fidently anticipated that a measure of relic! will be afforded. It fe'eems almost certain, that unless the position is met to .some extent that some of the smaller clubs will be compelled to discontinue their operations. The following amounts have been paid by this club during the year: Totalisator tax, £2894 0s 3d; dividend tax, £5209 19s; tax on receipts, £92 12s 2d; amusement tax, £306 17s 6d; land tax, £lO9 6s Bd—to,tal Government taxes, £XGI2 Tos 7d. In addition the club has paid local rates totalling £406 2s 6d. h
