Madras Presidency caused the river Cauvery to burst its banks and inundated a great area to a depth of eight feet. The river left its course, at various points. Many districts are isolated and enormous damage to property has been done. It is feared that there has been loss of life, and whole‘towns have been deserted by inhabitants.—Sydney Sun Cables.
