KAKARAMEA.

(from Our Own Correspondent). AN ENJOYABLE EVENING. A very enjoyable dance was held at at Hall on Friday night last, inaugurated by the ladies of the district in aid of the hall funds. The dance in itself was successful, but owing to a number of entertainments having been arranged in other pairts for the same evening the attendance was not so big as was expected. The hall was beauii--1 illly decorated for the occasion, as was to be quite expected, considering that the ladies had the affair in hand and the catering and other arrangements were quite in keeping with the tasteful decorations. Misses M. Dwyer, S. Lord, and It. Dowden made very charming M’s. C.. but the men folk very soon chivalrously relieved-them'of their duties. The music supplied by tYleDcnald’s orchestra was uniformly excellent throughout the evening. FARMERS’ UNION. The Kakaramea branch of the Fanners' Union has arranged with Mr G. Ford, Government Veterinarian, to give a lecture in the hall on Wednesday evening prox on calving problems, etc., and it is to be hoped that there will be a large attendance. Efforts are being made in this and surrounding districts to arouse in farmers more interest in their_union. It is to be regretted that there appears to be so much apathy in the minds of the farmers towards this movement which has proved itself so vitally important to them.

The executive has arranged, during the- eevning of 51 r Ford’s lecture, to hand (round a light supper, as it is recognised that a little comfort does not <'omc amiss these cold evenings, when the attraction of one’s “ain fireside” is apt to prove more powerful than even the most interesting of lectures.
