CLOSING OF ROWE STREET.
BOROUGH COUNCIL COMPLAINS. The borough inspector, Mr. L. Hunt, at last night’s meeting of the Hawera Borough Council reported that the concessions granted to the IVinter Show Committee had not been adhered to, Rowe Street having been closed to vehicles on the Monday, and the right-of-way next the Dominion Hotel not opened for pedestrian traffic until Tuesday, whereas it should have been opened Monday. The Geaieral Committee recommended that a letter be sent to the Winter Show Committee pointing out that although the Council had been only too willing to assist in the matter, It regretted that/ certain of the arrangements had not been carried out, viz.: (1) Rowe. Street was closed to vehicle traffic on Monday; (2) right-of-way next Dominion Hotel was not opened for pedestrian traffic until Tuesday; (3) such right-of-way was not properly lit. The recommendation was adopted.
