TRAINS HELD UP.
LINE BLOCKED BY COAL WAGGON. A BROKEN AXLE. (BY TELEGRAPH BRERS ASSOCIATION. I TE AWAMUTU, July 22. The breaking off of the axle of an eight-ton coal waggon near Lake. Road flasc station last night resulted in u hold up of the Main Trunk express for several hours. The coal waggon was part of a train proceeding just ahead of the south bound express, and the trouble occurred in. a. deep cutting and on a, sharp bend. Relief gangs quickly assembled, but the work was hampered greatly because of the position the train was in. The south bound express and also the special immigrants’ express was held up at Oliaupo and the north bound express was held up at Te Kawa. Meanwhile several goods trains were -blocked in the siding at Te Awamutu, so that when eventually the main line was cleared some trouble, was experienced in getting the. expresses clear on the main line. It was not until 6 a.m. that the congestion was relieved and the main line open again for regular traffic. It was a bitterly cold night, snow appearing on the- Pirongia mountain to the lowest level seen this winter.
