Reserves: Forwards, McDonald (City), Douglas (Devonport) Somers (Newton); backs. Delgrosso (Ponsonbv), Brown (City), Lang (Marists Old Bovs). ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL. CHINESE TEAM DEFEATED WELLINGTON. July 19. Fifteen thousand witnessed a “soccer” match between the Chinese ’Yar sity team and Wellington. Though the visitors were beaten by four goals to nil they gave a splendid exhibition, rousing the spectators’ cheers. In the first spell the Chinese set up a hot attack, which surprised both the team and the onlookers. Ewing, the Wellington goalkeeper, was equal to the occasion. The ground was wet and slippery after recent rains, and this evidently handicapped the visitors, who for the remainder, of the spell were on the defence. The Chinese did not eiiarge their opponents while the ball was in play. Lothian, Campbell, McElligott and Barton scored, two being due to the Chinese goalkeeper slipping. HOCKEY. The -Technical High School A team met the Hawera Hinemoa Rovers at Hawera on Saturday, the game resulting in a draw, neither side scoring. Mr McFadyen refereed.
