ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL.
THE CHINESE TEAM. In view of the fact that the visiting team, representative of the oldest country in the world, is coming to play in Ha worn, it will be of interest to recall that the composition of the team is probably unique in that all are from Chinese universities. It gives, too, an idea of the extent of educational systems in that great country and the way in which sport is fostered by the institutions. Eleven of the players come from universities in East Chinn and four from the South. They are all young men from twenty to twentysix. and all but two are native born, the- two being born one in Cardiff and the other in Banca (Dutch East Indies). Amongst them are champions in other branches of sport, most of them having been prominent in tennis, swimming, basket ball or base ball. Two have represented China in Far F.astern Olympiads, 1921 and 1923,
tiack and field events; another was ruinicr-iip at Cornell University singles, inter-collegiate champion at shot put and javelin and discus: another broke high jump record in 1921 Olympiad, member of Chinese Olympicteam, 1923, and represented ’varsity l l l L mter ", col ! ege ter,ni ' s and track, doing 100 yards in 10 2-ssee. All have records, scholastic and athletic, which mark them out as a wonderfully all™un.c!. team. They make up a team the like of which have rarely travelled so far to compete with .English teams, it says much for the enterprise of the iNew Zealand Association that they have sent an invitation and made arrangements for a- prettv lono- li«sfc of matches. ’
