When Mr Brook’s wife returned home a little later she found her husband in a tottering condition. He declared that someone had tried to murder him, and then collapsed. Medical aid was summoned, and Mr Brook was found to be suffering from bruises and laceration at the back of the head. He is unlikely to }>e able to resume his duties for several weeks. The man gained admission by breaking a pane of the kitchen window, thus enabling him to release the catch. No booty was obtained.
