A “Rum Row’’ doctor, Rovstou Faulkes, who has been engaged in the off-shore whisky traffic, was arrested by the immigration authorities for landing in the United States without a passport. When it was found that his mission was on behalf of a sailor near death he was returned to the rum fleet in a coastguard cutter under the white flag. Dr Faulkes said he wns a native of Sydney, and graduated in medicine at Glasgow and Londdh. He signed on last autumn for the voyage to Bermuda, and sought experience among men of adventure for material in writing fictioil.
