COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION 1 CHRISTCHURCH, July 15. William Gordon Hutchinson, described as the city business man of the advertising agency of Gordon Hutchinson Ltd., appeared in the Magistrate’s Court to-dav to answer a charge that lie had’ stolen a ladv’s bicycle valued at. £B. The accused elected to be tried by .jury. In a statement made to the police Hutchinson said the bicycle had been in the building where his ofiiec was situated for some weeks, and thinking it belonged to his typist he took it home. Evidence w T as given that Hutchinson had a very good business and was not short of money. He was committed for trial, small bail being allowed.

BRILLIANT METEOR. BLENHEIM, July 15. A meteor of extraordinary beauty and brilliance was observed in the direction of Wither Hills at about 7.55 last night. Those who witnessed the flight of the fiery ball with its streaming tail declare that it was a wonderful spectacle. Although it was a bright moonlight night, the meteor lit up the hillg still more brightly as it descended. The meteor travelled from east- to west and seemed to reach the earth among the foothills behind and to the east of Redwoodtown.

STEAMER DELAYED. AUCKLAND, July 15. The crew of the Kaituna. which was to sail at five o’clock for Napier, refused to sign the new articles, as they objected to the clause in the new award referring to the ' men’s borne port. Thev demanded instead a clause allowing them to be discharged at any port with the ritrht of a free passage to any other port. Instructions were received from Wellington that the men Ire signed on unde'- protest under the clause as denianded. The Kaituna is leaving for Napier about 10 o’clock.
