EGMONT-WANGANUI HUNT CLUB.

T POINT-TO-POINT MEETING. EXCELLENT PACING. The keenest of interest was taken in the steeplechase meeting organised by the Hunt Club Committee at Waverley on Saturday. The properties on which it was held, those of Messrs. Lupton and Dickie, were eminently suited to the purpose, the jumping being capital and the rising ground, near which the start and finishing post was arranged, afforded spectators an excellent view of the whole course. The competition was very keen, and in each event the finish was close and exciting, giving onlookers a number of thrilling runs. The work of both horses and riders was excellent. Better would not be seen at any race meeting. | The arrangements made by the secre-i tary (Mr. W. MacFarlane) and the committee were very good, and the whole proceedings went without a hitch. There was only one fall during the day, but the rider, though badly shaken, was not seriously hurt. The distances were from two to three miles, and were! a fine test of" stamina and lasting power. Mr. W. R. S. Brewer was starter and Dr. Simmons was judge. At- the conclusion of the day’s sport the prizes, a very nice list of trophies, were presented by Mrs. Simmons, of Patea, and the winners were given a, great reception. Mr. J. E. Palmer referred to the great success achieved, and ithanked all who had contributed tc that success, especially the owners of the country, over which the racing took place, and the donors of the excellent trophies. He said that Messrs. Lupton and Dickie had done everything in their power, and the committee found that- much of the necessary preliminary] work had been dope for them by the owners of the land. This had lightened their work very materially. Hearty cheers were given for all who had given assistance. The results were as follow : Lightweight Hunters. about 2* miles.—T. Higgie’s Shooting Star 1, S. Soland’s San Guard 2, A. Mercer’s Gilcrai 3. Heavyweight Hunters, about 3 miles. —Miss Stewart’s Gentleman Jack ], H. J. Crocker’s Tarraman 2, Miss B.
