Thomas Gardiner, aged 81, employed as messenger by J. W. Alexander and Co., stevedores, was returning from the hank at midday with wages amounting to £lO5, when he was attacked by three, young men and knocked down in a fairly busy street in Glebe, and was robbed. His assailants were chased, hut escaped.

MELBOURNE, July 12. Three more hold-ups occurred last night. They were by three men who the police state are identical with the, desperadoes operating on the previous Friday. A young man was stopped in a. reserve and ordered to surrender his money, and he handed over £7. He had considerably more, but was not searched. At East Melbourne, John Smith was rushed by three men. Smith endeavoured to protect himself, Hut was hit on the head with a blunt instrument and robbed. Victor Pentland, a lad, was returning from the bank on a bicycle, when a man rushed out and sandbagged him. The lad called for help, and his assailant decamped.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
