St. George',s Hill, Weybridge, Duncan and Mitchell (Britain) secured a four hole lead over Hagen and MacDonald Smith (America) in the first half of a four-ball match. The. British pair were easily the best to the greens and would have, obtained a longer lead if they had putted more consistently. The best ball scores were: Britishers 133, Americans 137. [(The match will be played over 72 holes, and the stake will be £SOO. Apart from the £SOO stake money, provided by an enthusiastic golfer, all the players have made large bets on the match. FRENCH LADIES’ CHAMPIONSHIP. . PARIS,, July 10. 1 In the final of the French ladies’ open goll championship Miss. Leiteh (Carlisle Clnb) defeated Miss Hunnewell (bunmndale) 10 up and S. HAW ERA LADIES’ CLUB. The Tonics’ rose bowl competition, which commenced on Thursday, should prove even more interesting than last year, tor not only is the number of entrants larger, but also their average of handicap strength is considerably higher, and some very close results may be looked for. The results of the first round are not complete, a number taking advantage of their fortnight's grace. Of those who tried for scores, I Miss Burgess and Miss M. Quin were very successful, the former handing in a card of 97, bringing her handicap down to 15. Miss Quin’s card (102) reduces her handicap to 21. One of the juniors. Miss F. Sturrock, also handed in a good card, earning her first L.G.U. handicap, 113-83-30. The results for the Yankee tournament lor the week ending July 10, Miss D. .Toll (27) beat Miss Death (27) 4 an 3. Miss O- Rorkc (33) beat Miss Dewar (40) 5 and 4. 'Mrs. Hall and Miss Earl <halved their match. One or two mistakes need some comment for individual and general benefit. In the fii M place competitors are reminded that the weeks run from Thursday to Ihuisday—— not Saturday to. Saturday, in one or two cases the scorers seem not at all clear as lo when a match is ■finished, and not to understand that the playing nl the remaining boles is optional and has not lung to do with the match. Again, some competitors have j they quite understand the mani agement ol their own handicap, but do not take that of their opponents into ! consideration, consequently the results have not much chance of being correct. Next week the third anti final round lor the three-day bogy will be played, and by wav of variety players 'wili choose their* own partners this time. The slight disarrangement of the programme due to Ihe bad weather has boon rather awkward for the week-end i puivers, who have to depend on the list ;ol events at ihe house for their inhumation, and lor this reason they arc notified well in advance that the second round of the junior twu-dav eclectic is for the 2-1 i.h, which moans the 19th for them.
