We who speak the same language and come from the same stock are after all fundamentally working for the peace of the world and the good of mankind.” Admiral Field extolled the virtues of the merchant marine, declaring that in time of war the commercial craft made possible the victories of the fighting cmft. America, like England, should build and maintain a merchant marine.
