The Prince wished him the best of luck and they were then photographed together. . The Prince of Wales afterwards visited the dressing rooms and congratulated Porritt. England had another convincing win in the 800 metres race, Lowe defeating Martin (Switzerland) and Enek • (America) in' 112 2-osee. The enthusiasm rivalled Abrahams’ success yesterday, The field was bunched at 600 metres, but was overwhelmed by Lowe’e terrific finish, in which he stalled off Martin’s challenge. Stallard was fourth. Porritt woir his semi-final in the 200 metres in 22sec\, beating the French champion Mourlou. Carr’s win in his semi-final in the same event was again most dashing. He beat Liddell, the British ex-ehampion, easing down in 21 4-ssee., which equalled the day’s best. Amongst the qualifiers in thg semi-final to-morrow are Paddock, Scholz, Mourlou, Liddell, Abraii ams and Kinsman. A novelty of the day was the appearance of the great Murmi in the 5000 metres race. He amazed the : crowd when the pistol was fired b.v clicking a ' stop-watch which, lie carried in his hand. He dropped back second to last and kept looking at the watch. He was merely playing with the field, for he cleared out in the last two hundred metres and won easily. American negroes filled first and second places. The long jump winner (Hubbard) covered 24|ft. Gourdin was second and Hansen (Norway) third. For the hundred metres hurdles final Atkinson (South Africa) 'and three Americans qualified. • At the close of the day America was leading in the aggregate with 9.0 points.
