ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL.
AUROA A v. AUROA B. The Auroa teams played the return match in the Julian Cup fixture at Auroa on Saturday in ideal weather and before a fair gathering of residents, and the game ended in a draw — two goals each. These teams played a draivn game on the last occasion they met, when there Avas no score. Whene\ r er these two teams meet it is dither neck or nothing, for each is out to win, and a hard-fought game is looked for. Hartley Avon the toss, and AY. BroAvn kicked off, and a combinedxrun by the A forwards was of no avail, D. Barlow relieving in. fine style by placing Avell up to liis iorAvards. J. Hartley securing passed nicely jto Lyndon, and enabled that player to Make the hall well up, but tnrougli over-eagerness it went OA r er, a goal kick resulting. From the kick Langlands secured and made for the A’s goal, but Joe Hartley intercepted and sent up to the B forwards, enabling J. Hartley to secure, and from a melee in front of the goal the hall Avent through, registering the B’s first goal. From the kick-off the ball traA'elled from end to end at great speed, until F. Barlow secured and sent’ up to B. Shearin, and enabled that player to score the second goal for the B’s. From the kick-off the A’s took the ball ii-ell up, but spoilt their chances of scoring by being offside. D. Barloiv took the kick, and. sent his forwards aAvnv again, but to no avail, had shooting liy the B’s'foi'Avards resulting in a goal kick. Half-time was called shortly after with the B’s in the lead by two to nil.
On. resuming the A’s brightened up a bit. Joe Hartley handled in the penalty area, and l£. Langlands taking the kick made no mistake, putting the A’s one up. This reverse put the B’s on their mettle, and they were striving hard to keep the A’s out until C. Espin secured and passed out to M. Bradford, Avho had. come up from the back dh’ision, enabling this player to equalise with a beauty. From now on the pace became a cracker, the B’s having the best of the remaining spell. Joe Hartley securing in front of the goal. Avith only the goalkeeper to heat, spoilt what must have been a sure goal by faulty shooting. AYilliams sent well up the field, T. Kilpatrick securing, but kicking too hard.the ball Avent out. From the throw-in J. Hartley secured, but banging on too long was beaten by Langlands; Avho tried' one on his own, hut shot Avide. Again the B’s took a hand in a combined forAvard rush. and B. ’Shearin securing made for the goal. Again had shooting robbed' the B’s of another score. For the rest of the spell each side Avas doing its utmost to add the major points, but to no avail, and the whistle sounded time after a hardfought and vigorous game with the nlay in midfield, the B’s having rather the best of the play throughout. AIT T. Broomfield was referee.
