FIRE FATALITY
j WARNING BY VICTIM. SAVED LIFE OF SISTER. (BY TELEGRAPH —PP-ESS ASFjCIATjON.) AUCKLAND, July 7. In connection with the Pokeno lire fatality, E, G. Walden, who perished in the flames, was the means of saving the lives of two women and a child: Deceased rushed into the burning .building _to rescue his sister, who,' he believed, was inside. The housekeeper, Mrs Langdon, who was in bed with her little boy Jack, was awakened by a voice shouting “May,” the name of. Walden’s sister. The name was shouted, once, then there was a low murmur and no more. Had it not been fdr this warning, Mrs Langdon believes she and her hoy w r ould have perished, ~ because she liad time only to wrap a blanket round her boy and dash for safety. In a moment or two she would have been suffocated.
