OPPOSITION TO M. HERRIOT. CONCERN FOR FRENCH INTERESTS. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT PARIS, %uly 7. The Opposition has launched a big offensive against the Premier (M. Herriott), the extremists demanding the immediate overthrow of the Government. The more moderate Oppositionists are trying to prevent M. Herriot going to London until he has reassured the public that French interests will not be sacrificed at the conference of the Allies. M. Herriot, in a speech at Troyes, declared that the experts’ report offered France the best chance of securing peace and payment. He deplored the Opposition efforts to distort and belittle the character of the Chequers meeting between Mr Ramsay MacDonald (Premier of Britain) and himself. He stated that the Government’s method was to pursue what unites, not’ what divides.
