THE CATTLE INDUSTRY. MELBOURNE, July 5. Mr Bruce announced that the Commonwealth Ministry had decided not to approve of a bounty on exported beef, but has approved of the payment of a bounty of 10s per head on exported live cattle. During 1923 the bounty, on frozen and canned beef and live cattle amounted to £141,000. Enquiries had shown that the prices growers were ’obtaining had_. been higher this year without a borfnty than they had received last year with it, - '

FEDERAL FINANCE. MELBOURNE, July 5. Dr. Earle Page, in his financial statement, said the principal increases in the revenue were: Customs and excise £6,100,782, post office £103,969, and estate duties £220,912. The principal decreases were: Income tax £1,492,511, interest of loans to the States for soldier. land settlement £479,673. The decrease in the income tax was largely due to the delay in assessing the tax, following on the amalgamation of the Commonwealth and State taxation offices. The principal increases in the expenditure "were: Ordinary votes of the departments £1,017,040, special appropriations other than war £145,777, Avar and repatriation sendees £339,‘498. —Aus.-N.Z. BRISBANE, July 5. Speaking at a welcome home, Mr Theodore declared that the conversion of the loans Mailing due next year, amounting to over £12,000,000, had been arranged satisfactorily, and the loan for renewal would be placed on the market, when a favourable time arrives.
