VAQUIER TRIAL.
ALLEGED MURDER. EVIDENCE BY MRS. JONES. IT CABLE —PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT LONDON, July 3. The trial of the Frenchman Vaquier, on a charge, of murdering Alfred G. J. Jones, licensee of the Blue Anchor Hotel in Byfleet, Surrey, was continued at Guildford.
The feature of the trial to-day was the duel between Mrs. Jones and Sir Curtis Bennett (counsel for the accused). The former was in the witnessbox for seven hours, and during a great part of the time was subjected to a fierce cross-examination. She gave many answers in a most indignant tone, and declared that many of the statements were lies
Mrs. Whitewick gave evidence for the prosecution. She said she saw Mrs. Jones come out of deceased’s room immediately after his death carrying a small purse. She went into an outhouse. .On emerging from there she dropped the purse. Witness picked it up and found it empty. When witness taxed Mrs. .Tones about it she replied that it had contained a photograph of Vaqpier, which she was anxious to destroy.
