(From Our Own Correspondent). BOWLTN'G CLUB. The annual meeting or the Manaia Bowling Club was held in Mr A. 0 Bennett’s office-' on Wednesday night’ when there was a large attendance. Mr Jas. Mickey, president, presided, lire report ajul balance-sheet was oronght forward, and showed a. very satisfactory result.ot the previous veair’u workings.
The chairman complimented the club on the satisfactory report- and balancesheet, and alos congratulated the club on winning the Symes shield. He also congratulated Pihama on winning the Christie shield. Messrs McDonald and A. H. Christie entered teams for the Taranaki tournament, and did ve"v well.
liie election of officers for the ensuing year resulted Patron, Mr T. W. Arinitage ; president, Mr .tames Hickey ; vice-president, Mr S. Greaves; secretary. Mr \V. Ridley; auditor, Mr V. H. Hobday; general committee, Messrs McDonald, J. Christie, Poynter, Innes, A. H. Christie, A. Franklin, and A. Andrews ; ground committee, Messrs A. Andrews and A. Smith; delegates to Taranaki Association, Messrs Jas. Hickey and W. Hadley; selector, Mr A. H. Christie.
It was proposed by Air Bennett and seconded by the chairman, that a hearty vote of thanks be accorded to Air Innes for three years’ past services as secretary, also to Air B. Badland, custodian of the green, .for the splendid condition of the green last season, and for the able manner in which he Gained out his duties.
The presentation of trophies was made as follows : Championship singles, Air W. McDonald ; handicap singles, Toroa Ngatau; pairs competition. Messrs ,J. Christie and S. Greaves.
A hearty vote of thanks to the press, also to Mr Bennett for use- of his office lor meetings, terminated a very enthusiastic meeting. TOWN BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the Msnaia Town Board was held last night.. Present: Alessrs .1. J. Aleldon (chair). K. S. F. Craig. Jas. Hickey, G. Nielson. .V Times, and C. Jones.. Air A. L. Young waited on the. Board re footpath in front of his residence.— The Board decided to give the matter consideration.
The Under-Seci-etairy of Public Works wrote asking the Board to consent to registration of .the district under the Plumbers’ Act.
William Hairstow wrote, laying complaint against unlicensed biiiiard-room in Manain. ,
Toroa Ngataa applied for a. license for billiard .room. —The matter was left in the hands of the police to report. Ihe Depart men l of Agriculture wrote re weeds on a certain farm.— Left in the hands of Crs. Jones and Hiokev.
Air 1!. S. F. Craig was granted permission to build. The Rev. Father O’Dwycu- wrote re conditions of sale.—lt was resolved that the Board cannot vary same. Airs Borrie was granted permission to plough line hedge and -erect fence, subject to the approval of the inspector.
The Rev. Air Roberts asked for a lamp at the corner of RiemeriscTmetde ; ;- Street. —It was resolved that the Booed cannot increase the number f of lights in the town. Alessrs Arinitage and Nielson wore given permission to lay water pines to their premises.
The foreman’s report was received and adopted.
Owing to not getting the necessary finance from the Government, it was decided to close down the drainage at present.
Air limes moved: That- the Board •appreciates the services of Mr Slinger. the. lineman, during his period as overseer of the water and drainage.— .Seconded by (V. J. Hickey.-—Air Slinger suitably replied. The matter of selling the two Town Heard horses was left in the hands of Crs. Jones and Hickey. A heartv vote of thanks was uccoided Airs Sint-lain* for donation of os towards the Domain. Alonthly accounts were missed fex payment.
